Teacher's porn past gets her fired

A U.S. army veteran was fired from her job as a high school science teacher and volleyball coach this week after it was revealed that she appeared in an X-rated movie 11 years ago.

Tericka Dye's story is all too familiar. Like so many girls trying to make a living, she was young and needed the money. She was also homeless and struggling with bi-polar disorder.

"I'm a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who's made a lot of bad decisions in life," said Dye.

The then-23-year-old spent one day acting in a porno film in 1995.

"I absolutely 100 percent regret doing that," Dye said. "I've always tried to look ahead and not focus on it. But I wasn't diagnosed at the time."

After the degrading experience Dye joined the Army and was able to get her life in order. After serving as an MP, she went on to college. She's been teaching at Reidland High School in Paducah, Kentucky for the past two years.

On Wednesday her boss, McCracken County Schools Superintendent Tim Heller, told her in a letter that she was being fired for doing something totally legal 11 years ago.

"Your presence in the classroom would cause a disruption to the educational process," Heller wrote in a letter to Dye. "I fear there would be less than a serious approach to schooling by students who viewed the video or know about it."

According to Amy Girard, manager of Paducha's local smut-peddler Playhouse Pleasures, regrets not having Dye's movie in stock.

"Compared to every other movie we've had, (there's) been quite a few calls" from people eager to watch it. Girard and her staff can't even find the name of the film, however, despite an extensive Internet search.

On Wednesday Bonnie Chilcoat and some other parents pulled their kids out of class to attend a rally in support of the reformed starlet.

"She's not the person she was 10 years ago," Chilcoat said. "We've all done things that we regret, except hers is on tape."
