Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is such a miserable prude that she had Playboy and Penthouse yanked from State Department area newsstands when she took office there.
"The secretary wanted them gone immediately," said her senior adviser, Jim Wilkinson. "She didn't understand how a department that claimed to fight for the rights of women worldwide could sell pornography that degrades women."
Such smut-peddlers as John Updike, Norman Mailer, Joyce Carol Oates, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. have published their filth in the pages of Playboy.
At the Secretary's behest, two newsstands did a purge of the salacious materials. But now that Playboy and Penthouse are gone, some women at State are looking to get rid of Maxim and FHM.
Don't expect that to happen any time soon. Hard-core porn might not be flying off the shelves, but according to State News's Richard Williams, "Maxim is a bestseller."
