Suspended for growing cancer wig

An Alabama teen has been kicked out of school for growing his hair out so it can be made into a wig for cancer patients.
Jackson Baker's grandmother died of ovarian cancer six years ago. Baker, 18, is honoring her memory by growing out his hair so he can donate it to
Locks of Love, the same organization that provided her with a wig while she was going through chemo.
Now, just months shy of graduation, he's been sent home from
Tuscaloosa Academy because his hair has reached his collar and eyes.
"You have to set standards, and you have to hold to them," Principal George Elder said.
Baker, his hair just an inch short of his ten-inch goal, refuses to be cowed such moronic fascism.
"I'm going to be home schooling now until the end of this year," Baker said.
And he has no regrets.
"None at all. I'm perfectly satisfied with the decisions I've made," Baker said.
For his part, Elder thinks he was magnanimous in his patience.
"We asked him three times to cut his hair over a month's period," said Elder.
He says Baker should've sought approval to grow his hair so the unsightly mess could be cut before graduation.
"That meets the spirit and body of our standards and supports a needy, worthwhile cause," Elder said. "
One of the things about hair is it keeps growing."
Elder claims to support Locks of Love and says that students at his school are required to perform community service. But like everything else, it must be done by his rules.
He even went as far as to express sorrow over Baker's sense of justice and individuality.
"This is a nice young man -- a fine boy. We still hope he'll finish at T.A.," Elder said.
Baker is done with Elder and Tuscaloosa Academy. He is currently looking forward to attending the University of Alabama on a scholarship from the school's art department.
